FABRICS

BOGOLAN / MUDCLOTH

Bogolan is a handmade fabric, making each piece a truly unique one of a kind work of art. The Bogolan products that we offer are in a lot of colour combinations available.

Originally the work was done by women but men weave narrow strips now of fabric from hand spun white cotton yarn. The strips are sewn together and dyed with a mud application. The whole process takes several weeks to complete. Mudcloth contains irregularities which are not defects, but are due to the work hand made.

We are proud to offer the finest traditional African fabrics like Bogolanfini and Gala (Indigo) produced in a fair trade environment. By working directly with artisans in Kayes, Mali we are able to positively affect the economic development in the most needy areas. The artisan studio in Mali is dedicated to supporting small scale production by talented craftspeople. A portion of our profits helps provide opportunities to the communities we work with.

DUTCH WAX

Wax fabrics have been known in Africa for over 150 years and the manufacturing began in Holland with some Dutch businessmen using wax as a resist from Java in Indonesia, ancient colony of Holland. Our Dutch Genuine Wax is coming from Holland and very popular in West Africa.

The colour palette of Bogolan, Dutch Genuine Wax and Indigo (Gala) is particularly suited to interior decoration, looking good as a drape, wall hanging, cushion cover, furniture throw or curtains.
